Cao Cao suffered a great defeat at the Red Cliffs and returned to Xudu, feeling depressed and unhappy. At this time, his beloved youngest son Cangshu fell seriously ill, and his family went around seeking medical treatment, but to no avail. Seeing that the child was hopeless, Cao Cao said sadly, "If Hua Tuo were here, the child wouldn't have died so early

Hua Tuo, as mentioned by Cao Cao, was a renowned medical expert in Chinese history who was from the same hometown as Cao Cao. Hua Tuo has been proficient in reading scriptures since childhood, especially in medicine. No matter what difficult and complicated diseases he has, most of them are cured by medicine. Local officials and court captains heard of Hua Tuo's reputation and summoned him to become an official. Hua Tuo refused to go.

Hua Tuo's diagnosis was extremely accurate. Once, two officials had a headache and fever, and sought medical treatment from Hua Tuo one after another. After Hua Tuo inquired about the condition, he prescribed laxatives for one and antiperspirants for the other. Someone was watching Hua Tuo prescribe medicine nearby and asked him why his condition was the same but his medication was different. Hua Tuo said, "This kind of illness may seem the same on the surface, but it's actually different. The first one is internal and should be treated with laxatives, while the second one is only affected by an external sensation, so it's enough to make him sweat." These two people went back and took the medicine, and indeed both of them recovered.

There is another general surnamed Li who asked Hua Tuo to treat his wife's illness. Hua Tuo went and touched his pulse, saying, "I injured my body when I was alive, and the fetus was left in my stomach." General Li said, "My wife has already had a miscarriage, and the fetus has come out." Hua Tuo said

According to my judgment, the fetus is still in the patient's belly

General Li doesn't believe it. After Hua Tuo left, more than a hundred days later, his wife's illness became increasingly severe, so he had to invite Hua Tuo to come and treat her again.

Hua Tuo said, "There must be a dead fetus in your belly. Perhaps your wife was originally a twin, with one giving birth and the other remaining in her belly

Hua Tuo gave the patient a decoction and injected her with needles, and indeed gave birth to a stillbirth. The patient quickly recovered.

Hua Tuo is not only skilled in treating internal medicine, but also adept at performing surgical procedures. He formulated an anesthetic called Ma Fei San. A patient suffered from severe abdominal pain, and after more than ten days, all of his beard and eyebrows fell off. Upon diagnosis, Hua Tuo said, "This is spleen ulceration, and we need to open the abdomen for treatment as soon as possible." Hua Tuo had the patient take Ma Fei San, open the abdominal cavity, remove the necrotic spleen, sew up the wound, and apply ointment. After four or five days, the wound healed and I recovered within a month.

There are many other legends recorded in history books about Hua Tuo's treatment of diseases. It is said that a prefect fell ill and sought treatment from many doctors, but was unable to cure it. After Hua Tuo's diagnosis and treatment, he believed that this disease could only be cured by making the patient angry. He deliberately demanded expensive consultation fees from patients, but procrastinated and did not give him proper prescriptions and medication. After a few days, he left without saying goodbye and even left a letter cursing the prefect for being ill and committing suicide.

The governor was indeed furious and immediately sent people to pursue Hua Tuo. The son of the prefect knew Hua Tuo's intentions and secretly warned his family not to arrest him. The prefect heard that he couldn't catch Hua Tuo, and became even angrier. In a fit of anger, he vomited a few mouthfuls of black blood. I don't want to vomit, but my illness has actually improved.

Cao Cao has always suffered from head wind disease. When it comes to calming down at work, a head wind attack occurs and the pain is unbearable. He heard that Hua Tuo had excellent medical skills, so he invited him in. Hua Tuo administered a few injections and his headache stopped. Cao Cao refused to let him go and kept him as a medical attendant to treat him at any time.

Although Hua Tuo was willing to help people and was enthusiastic about treating them, he did not want to stay by Cao Cao's side all the time and manage someone's medicine cabinet. Once, he used the excuse of going home to visit relatives and also went to fetch some medicine. Cao Cao had no suspicion and let Hua Tuo go.
